Preparing for Sunday - October 8, 2017

Hey Shoreliners!

What an encouraging Sunday it was! It was awesome to see new folks and some of our kids be baptized as a step of obedience and to proclaim the new life they have in Christ! This week Pastor Pilgrim will be teaching out of Ecclesiastes 7:-14, which contrasts the wise with the foolish. I encourage you to prepare by reading this passage before our service this weekend.

Check out the songs we’ll be singing this week:

1.   Your Love Awakens Me - Phil Wickam

This is a great, energetic song to kick off our worship service. It reminds us of who we were before Christ, separated and bound in chains. But when Christ called our name, He brought us back to life! How great is His love for us!

2.   Cornerstone - Hillsong Worship

Hillsong did a wonderful job updating the hymn that we have sung for so many years. The hope we have in this world is all built on Christ - our cornerstone!

3.   What a Friend we have in Jesus - Traditional (arrangement by The Sing Team)

John 15:15 says, “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” This author of this hymn wrote it for his mother, who was going through a particularly tough struggle. It continues to give us comfort today as we bring every burden, every care to Him. Jesus! What a friend for sinners!

4.   Death was Arrested - North Point Worship

We introduced this song back in August, and I’m excited to sing it again with you as we focus on the new life we have, the new creations we are because of the cross. We are free & redeemed, and when we sing, we join in the same song that believers have sung now for two thousand years!

5.   The Stand - Hillsong United

As we move into a time of response, this song exhorts us to stand in awe of what Christ has done for us. The lyrics of the song echo the words of missionary C.T. Studd, who said, “If Christ be God and died for me, then there can be no sacrifice too great for me to make for Him.”
